About Athlete's Foot
Submitted by Sylita on Mon, 2007-01-08 11:13.
About Athletes Foot Athlete's foot, a fungal condition that affects the skin between the toes, occurs because your feet spend most of the time enclosed in a dark, damp, warm environment. This occurs with some basketball players and to help prevent athlete's foot, keep your feet clean and dry and expose them to the air whenever possible. If you have a continuing problem with athlete's foot, try one of the anti-fungal agents available over the counter like Dr. Scholl, Odor Eaters or Lamisil. But don't expect a quick cure. You may need to use the anti-fungal agent twice a day for two weeks before you get results. Sometimes people have discolored toenails. This is not necessarily a fungal infection. It is necessary to differentiate the common signs of toenail fungus as early as possible because once toenail fungus has taken hold it can be difficult to eradicate. In general, the longer toenail fungus is left untreated the longer the treatment will have to be. The most common signs of toenail fungus are a yellow or brown discoloration of the nail. This is followed by thickening of the nail, dryness of the nail, and accumulation of layers of material under and along the nail. The nail may become brittle and break or crumble. A health care expert or podiatrist can diagnose toenail fungus almost at a glance. Regular exercise to increase circulation, sensible shoe choice and attention to foot care can go a long way toward keeping your feet happy and healthy. But air and keeping your feet in safe by wearing flip flops/sandals in the shower can help prevent athlete's foot. Read more information in Itchy Foot Cure.
