Feb 06, 2008
Press Release posted by Manhattanville
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Already having won the Freedom Conference Player of the Week Award earlier in the week, Men’s basketball senior Cody Moffett (Brooklyn, N.Y.) has been named the PrestoSports Player of the Week, PrestoSports announced.

The PrestoSports Player of the Week distinction is awarded by the New York Area Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association, who evaluate players of the nearly 75 schools in the tri-state area. A panel of eight media members selects one male and one female as the metro area players of the week.

Last Wednesday, Moffett helped the Valiants knock off defending Freedom Conference champion King’s (Pa.) in a double-overtime thriller. Manhattanville’s leading scorer registered 27 points, 15 rebounds, and eight assists in the contest. The last of those 27 points, a free throw late in the second overtime, was Moffett’s 1,000th career point, making him the third Valiant this season to record his 1,000th career point.

On the road at Delaware Valley Saturday, Moffett scored 18 points and added 15 rebounds and five assists to help the Valiants defeat the upstart Aggies 77-71. Down by six late, Moffett sparked the Valiants to regain the lead, with five points down the stretch.

Last night, before the Manhattanville win over FDU-Florham, Moffett was honored for scoring his 1,000th career point. On the season, Moffett is averaging a career-high 18.6 points and 6.8 rebounds per game.

The Valiants (14-6, 6-2 Freedom) face Freedom-leading DeSales on the road Saturday in a pivotal Freedom Conference game, beginning at 3:00 p.m.

Manhattanville men’s basketball senior Cody Moffett (Brooklyn, N.Y.) has been named the Freedom Conference’s Player of the Week for the third time this season, the conference announced today, after scoring his 1,000th career point and averaging 22.5 points and 15 rebounds per game in two key Freedom wins for the Valiants.

On Wednesday in a double-overtime thriller at home against King’s ( Pa. ), Moffett tallied 27 points, 15 rebounds, and eight assists to lead Manhattanville to a 100-92 victory. Moffett also shot 13-for-18 from the foul line and sank key free throws in the second overtime to seal the Valiant victory. The last of his free throws netted Moffett his 1,000th career point, making him the third Valiant this season to surpass the 1,000 point total and the only player this season to do so in three years.

Saturday at Delaware Valley , Moffett scored 18 points and added 15 rebounds and five assists to help the Valiants top the Aggies, 77-71. With the Valiants down by six late in the second, Moffett scored five to propel the Valiants back into the lead.

On the season, the senior is averaging 19.2 points and 6.8 rebounds per game to lead Manhattanville in both categories. Moffett was honored twice previously this season by the conference, November 26 and December 10, 2007. Of the nine weeks the conference has awarded Player of the Week, Valiants have won six times.

The Valiants (13-6, 5-2 Freedom) return home Tuesday to host FDU-Florham at 8:00 p.m. Prior to the game, Moffett will be honored for scoring his 1,000th career point.
